Bob Veale didn't allow a hit until the 8th inning at Fulton Co. Stadium as the
Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Atlanta Braves 2 to 0.
Veale(5-5) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Atlanta offense. He
gave up just 2 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings dropping his ERA from 4.57 to
4.14. The left-handed Veale had his no-hit bid broken up by Clete Boyer who
singled with one out in the 8th inning. After the 4th inning, neither team
was able to score.
The losing pitcher was Milt Pappas(3-6). Larry Shepard was very impressed
with his pitcher, Veale, 'He had unusually good pitch placement this
afternoon. It was almost unfair - but a beautiful game to watch from where I
sat'
