Cleveland took the lead for good in the 7th inning as they scored 3 runs on 3
base hits. Cleveland managed 10 hits in their victory.
Williams(8-19) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Mike
Kekich(6-18) ended up with the loss. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not
allow an earned run in his 6 and 2/3 innings of work.
When questioned about his counterpart after the game, Kekich was lavish in his
praise, 'It was obvious very early on that we were going to be in for a long
night. Williams brought his 'A' game with him - he had good stuff and was
able to spot it perfectly. He probably only made one or two bad pitches the
entire game!

Juan Marichal pitched a complete game and third baseman Jim Davenport had 2
base hits at Candlestick Park as the slumping San Diego Padres lost a
heartbreaker to San Francisco Giants by the score of 4 to 3.
The game was won by San Francisco when they scored a run in the bottom of the
9th inning. Bobby Bonds hit a bases-empty home run resulting in an exciting
win for San Francisco and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans.
Both teams totaled 8 hits on the afternoon.
Marichal(28-10) was the winner allowing 3 runs for the game. Johnny
Podres(1-4) took the loss in relief. He allowed 1 run and 1 hit in 1 inning.
