Right fielder Ed Kirkpatrick had 3 base hits as the Kansas City Royals bested
the Chicago (AL) White Sox in 10 innings 9 to 6 at Comiskey Park.
The score was tied at 6 after nine. Kansas City won the game in the 10th
inning. Kirkpatrick led off and started the rally when he ripped a one-base
hit. Jerry Adair followed and he lined a base-hit. Ellie Rodriguez then
slapped a base-hit which scored a run. After an out was recorded, Hernandez
stole second with some aggressive base running. Moe Drabowsky got his chance
to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Pat Kelly kept the inning
going and was walked intentionally to load the bases. Mike Fiore next to the
plate and he laced a one-base hit which accounted for two additional runs.
Fiore took second on the throw. This was the kind of game that many fans
love as the lead changed hands 5 times.
Drabowsky(2-1) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Steve Jones
recorded his 2nd save. Danny Murphy(1-1) absorbed the loss in relief.
Kansas City knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 3 runs in 2 innings.
