Dave Leonhard carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning at Yankee Stadium where
the Baltimore Orioles beat the New York (AL) Yankees 2 to 0.
Leonhard(11-6) was on top of his game. He didn't allow much, just 1 hit and
no walks in 8 innings. The right-handed Leonhard had his no-hit bid broken
up by Gene Michael who singled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Baltimore
managed only 6 hits on the afternoon.
Pete Richert was credited with his 3rd save. Mike Kekich(6-17) ended up with
the loss. He surrendered 6 hits and 5 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.

Jim Roland allowed Hank Bauer to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as
the indomitable Oakland Athletics beat the lifeless California Angels by a
score of 4 to 3.
California was unable to climb back into it after Oakland went ahead for good
in the 6th inning scoring a single run on 2 hits. California had a chance in
the 9th but they came up short.
Roland(14-4) was the winner allowing 3 runs for the game. Jim McGlothlin(6-18)
was tagged with the loss. He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings giving up 7 hits and
5 walks.

Del Unser cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the dominant Washington Senators
outscored the Cleveland Indians in 10 innings 3 to 1.
Both teams had scored 1 runs after nine full innings. Washington won the hard
fought contest in the 10th inning. Paul Casanova led off and he reached on
an error. Bowens was safe on a stolen base. After an out was recorded,
Unser then blasted a two-run home run making Washington the victors to the
delight of the home town faithful. Washington had only 5 hits for the game.
Bob Humphreys(7-4) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Dick
Ellsworth(6-7) absorbed the loss in relief. He gave up 2 runs and 2 hits in
2 and 1/3 innings.

Bill Butler was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game at Comiskey Park where the Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago
(AL) White Sox by the score of 9 to 4.
Pat Kelly had a good day at the plate. He cracked a two-run shot in the 1st
inning, ripped a base-hit which was good for two runs in the 2nd inning and
slapped a single in the 7th inning. Kansas City banged out 15 hits on the
afternoon.
Butler(5-10), allowing 4 runs for the game, picked up the victory. The loss
was charged to Gary Peters(11-11). He was knocked around, surrendering 9
runs in 6 and 1/3 innings.
