Ray Culp pitched a complete game as the Boston Red Sox bested the Detroit
Tigers 2 to 1 at Tiger Stadium.

First baseman Joe Pepitone hit a homerun and had 3 RBI and Mel Stottlemyre
allowed Ralph Houk to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the New
York (AL) Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 4 to 3 at
Memorial Stadium.
In the top of the 3rd inning New York (AL) went on top for good scoring 2
runners on 3 hits. Baltimore threatened in the 9th but New York (AL) was
able to put down the rally.
Stottlemyre(14-13) finished the game allowing 3 runs in the victory. Dave
Leonhard(10-6) suffered the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 7 hits
and 3 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Jim Roland completed the game without help from the bullpen as the seemingly
unstoppable Oakland Athletics defeated the California Angels in 11 innings by
the score of 7 to 1 at Anaheim Stadium.
Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings. Oakland won the
game in the 11th inning. The critical plate appearance was by Rick Monday
who helped quiet the crowd when he singled plating two runs. Oakland and
California each finished the night with 8 hits.
The win was credited to Roland(13-4) who went the whole way allowing 1 run.
The loss was charged to Bob Priddy(2-5) in relief. He gave up 5 runs in 1
and 2/3 innings and saw his ERA jump from 5.70 to 6.43.
The winning ways continue for Oakland. They now have a record of 9-1 in
recent days. California has a record of 59-91, worst in the division after
the loss.
