Boston was unable to claim the lead after Baltimore went ahead in the top of the 2nd inning scoring a single run using 2 hits. The pitchers took over after the 4th inning as neither team was able to score again. The victory was credited to Cuellar(26-12) who went the distance, allowing 1 run. Ray Culp(12-20) was tagged with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 6 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings. In another of a string of victories, Baltimore extended their winning streak to 6 games. 'It seems we can't lose these days', Earl Weaver volunteered after the game. Then after a moment to reflect he lamented, 'Oh great! Now I've gone and jinxed us!' Neither team scored in the first nine innings. Cleveland ended up winning it in the 10th inning. Eddie Leon led off and keyed the rally when he drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Nelson was running on the next pitch and he stole second. Sam McDowell was next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim.
