Win:Cuellar(26-12) Loss:Culp(12-20)
Homeruns- D.Buford(11th), F.Robinson(28th), M.Andrews(16th)
Mike Cuellar was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game as the very potent Baltimore Orioles bested the Boston Red Sox
9 to 1 at Fenway Park.
Boston was unable to claim the lead after Baltimore went ahead in the top of
the 2nd inning scoring a single run using 2 hits. The pitchers took over
after the 4th inning as neither team was able to score again.
The victory was credited to Cuellar(26-12) who went the distance, allowing 1
run. Ray Culp(12-20) was tagged with the loss. He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 6 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.
In another of a string of victories, Baltimore extended their winning streak
to 6 games. 'It seems we can't lose these days', Earl Weaver volunteered
after the game. Then after a moment to reflect he lamented, 'Oh great! Now
I've gone and jinxed us!'

| CLEVELAND AT DETROIT

Tigers.......... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 - 2 6 0
Win:McDowell(20-15) Loss:Lolich(17-15) Save:Williams(4th)
One run was the difference at Tiger Stadium as the Cleveland Indians broke out
of their 6 game losing streak and defeated the Detroit Tigers in 10 innings 3
to 2.
Neither team scored in the first nine innings. Cleveland ended up winning it
in the 10th inning. Eddie Leon led off and keyed the rally when he drew a
walk. After an out was recorded, Nelson was running on the next pitch and he
stole second. Sam McDowell was next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim.
Jose Cardenal came up and he was walked intentionally. Larry Brown came up
to bat and drew a walk to load the bases. Ken Harrelson kept the rally going
and doubled plating three runs. Detroit had 6 hits in the game while
Cleveland had 3, but Cleveland had the more timely hits.
The win went to McDowell(20-15) who allowed 2 runs in 9 and 1/3 innings. Stan
Williams was credited with his 4th save. Mickey Lolich(17-15) suffered the
loss.
Alvin Dark was just happy to get a win, 'We've had such a bad streak of games
-- boy, it's great to get the monkey off our back. Now maybe we can relax a
little and play the kind of baseball of which we are capable.'
