Al Kaline had 4 hits and Denny McLain allowed only 2 hits resulting in a big
goose egg on the scoreboard for Baltimore at Tiger Stadium as the Detroit
Tigers, running on all cylinders, ripped the Baltimore Orioles by a large 10
to 0 margin.
Kaline had a big day at the plate. He lined a one-base hit in the 1st inning,
slapped a base-hit in the 3rd inning, electrified the crowd with a Grand Slam
home run in the 4th inning and doubled scoring two baserunners in the 6th
inning. Detroit had a total of 11 hits for the game.
For McLain(21-12) it was his 7th shutout this year. The losing pitcher was
Dave McNally(18-9). He was hit hard and gave up 6 hits and 4 walks in 3 and
2/3 innings.
'He was moving it around and spotting it very well.' Earl Weaver said. McLain
pitched a great game. He deserves all the credit.'

It was a laugher out at Anaheim Stadium. The Chicago (AL) White Sox squad
ripped California pitching for a total of 11 runs. Joe Horlen(9-15), with
relief help from Sammy Ellis, surrendered 2 runs to California.
Horlen pitched a solid game. He went 8 and 2/3 innings surrendering 5 hits
and 3 walks. Chicago (AL) had 11 hits overall, while California had 5.
Tom Murphy(6-15) was given the loss. He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 3
hits and 3 walks.

In a tight game it was the Minnesota Twins 8, the Oakland Athletics 6 at
Oakland Coliseum.
The Oakland fans didn't appreciate the big day Harmon Killebrew had. He
singled in the 5th inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the 7th inning.
The Oakland batters didn't put up a fight in the bottom of the 9th.
Al Worthington(4-7) went 3 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Jim
Roland(11-4) was tagged with the loss. He was touched for 12 hits and 3
walks in 8 innings.

Larry Brown slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI and Stan Williams completed the
game without help from the bullpen at Municipal Stadium where the Cleveland
Indians beat the New York (AL) Yankees 7 to 4.
Cleveland scored 3 runs in the 7th inning when they came up with 4 base hits.
Tony Horton led off and started the rally when he laced a base-knock. Ken
Harrelson next to the plate and he laced a single. After an out was
recorded, Duke Sims then smacked a three-run homer. The New York (AL)
offense proved no trouble in the 9th.
Williams(7-17) finished the game allowing 4 runs in the victory. The loss was
charged to Mel Stottlemyre(11-13). He was not very effective, surrendering 7
runs in 6 and 1/3 innings.
