Tom Seaver allowed only 3 hits resulting in a big goose egg on the scoreboard
for Philadelphia as the New York (NL) Mets bested the Philadelphia Phillies 1
to 0 at Shea Stadium.
Seaver(15-14) was virtually untouchable. He didn't give up much, just 3 hits
and 2 walks in 9 innings. New York (NL) finished with just 2 hits in the
victory.
Rick Wise(13-16) absorbed the loss. He pitched 8 innings and surrendered just
2 hits and 3 walks. 'Seaver took our guys to school' Bob Skinner said. 'Too
bad he doesn't pitch for us - it would make my job a whole lot easier!'

Jerry Johnson(6-7) was very good in the win. He didn't allow much, just 6
hits and 1 walk in 8 innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.94 to 3.73.
Philadelphia had just 5 hits for the night.
Johnson was helped out by Bill Wilson who recorded his 7th save. The loss was
charged to Nolan Ryan(13-5). While he was the losing pitcher, he still
struck out 11 batters in 8 innings.

Wes Parker touched them all as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Diego
Padres by the score of 4 to 3 at San Diego Stadium.
Joe Moeller(4-3) gave a fine effort for Los Angeles. He went 8 innings
allowing 7 hits and no walks lowering his ERA to 3.36. San Diego threatened
in the 9th but Los Angeles was able to put down the rally.
Pete Mikkelsen earned the save, his 6th. Dick Kelley(8-18) took the loss. He

Larry Dierker went 9 strong innings as the Houston Astros outscored the San
Francisco Giants 4 to 3.
In the 7th inning Houston went on top for good plating an isolated run on 3
base hits. The San Francisco offense proved no trouble in the 9th.
Dierker(16-12) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. Gaylord
Perry(20-14) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 8 innings and surrendered 8
