Walt Williams had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Chicago (AL) White Sox topped
the woeful California Angels by a score of 3 to 2 at Anaheim
Stadium.
Chicago (AL) did all the necessary damage in the 5th inning scoring 3 runners
on 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Williams who helped quiet the
crowd when he ripped a single bringing home two baserunners. California
tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Tommy John(12-14) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Wilbur
Wood earned his 22nd save. Andy Messersmith(13-14) was the losing pitcher.
'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it
was nothing.' John said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put the
ball where I wanted it.'

Blue Moon Odom had a strong outing and Tommie Reynolds went deep and had 2 RBI
as the Oakland Athletics beat the Minnesota Twins in 10 innings by a score of
3 to 2.
The score was tied at 2 after nine. Oakland came out the victor in the 10th
inning. Reggie Jackson clubbed a solo home run giving Oakland the win as
26,051 happy fans joyfully celebrated. Oakland banged out 12 hits on the
night.
Odom(16-13), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. The loss was
charged to Al Worthington(3-7) in relief.

Tommie Sisk allowed Preston Gomez to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and second baseman Jose Arcia had 2 base hits as the San Diego Padres
defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 2 to 1 at San Diego Stadium.
San Diego tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning when they came up
with 3 base hits. That was all the offense they were to need. San Diego
finished with 7 hits in the victory.
Sisk(7-3) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Bill Singer(17-13)
ended up with the loss. He gave up 7 hits and no walks in 8 innings.
'I struggled a bit out there tonight,' Sisk said, 'but I toughed it out and we
got the win.'
