Graig Nettles homered and had 2 RBI and Dean Chance carried a no-hitter into
the 7th inning as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Cleveland Indians 6 to 1
at Metropolitan Stadium.
Chance(7-3) put on a good performance. He allowed just 4 hits and 3 walks in
9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.45 to 3.23. The right-handed Chance
lost his no-hit bid when Frank Baker singled with nobody out in the 7th
inning. Minnesota rapped out 10 hits for the afternoon.
Stan Williams(6-17) was tagged with the loss. He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 9 hits and 7 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

Denny McLain went the distance at Municipal Stadium where the Detroit Tigers
beat the Kansas City Royals by the score of 5 to 1.
Detroit brought 2 runs across the plate in the top of the 5th inning with the
help of 3 hits. They would hold up as the winning runs. Detroit finished
with 13 hits in the victory.
The victory went to McLain(20-12) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Roger
Nelson(13-11) was hit with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and
3 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Reggie Jackson went yard and had 3 RBI and Chuck Dobson was able to finish
what he started and was credited with a complete game as the Oakland
Athletics beat the Boston Red Sox by a score of 6 to 2.
Jackson enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He doubled in the 1st inning,
delivered a single in the 5th inning and cracked a two-run shot in the 6th
inning. Oakland had 12 hits for the afternoon.
The winning pitcher was Dobson(5-4) who allowed 2 runs for the game. The loss
was charged to Mike Nagy(9-13). He got hammered, allowing 12 hits and 3
walks in 9 innings.
