Joe Horlen threw a 2 hitter at Comiskey Park as the Chicago (AL) White Sox
beat the Baltimore Orioles by the count of 3 to 1.
Chicago (AL) had 2 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 4th inning. The
highlight belonged to Don Pavletich who elicited a roar from the hometown
fans when he cracked a two-run shot. The Baltimore offense proved no trouble
in the 9th.
Horlen(8-15) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Dave
McNally(18-8) was the loser. 'He was moving it around and spotting it very
well.' Earl Weaver said. Horlen pitched a great game. He deserves all the
credit.'

Dick Ellsworth blanked Minnesota in a very well-pitched complete game at
Metropolitan Stadium where the Cleveland Indians beat the Minnesota Twins 2
to 0.
Ellsworth(5-5) earned his pay with a solid performance for Cleveland. He went
9 innings surrendering 9 hits and 1 walk lowering his ERA to 4.04. Minnesota
out-hit Cleveland 9 to 4, but Cleveland ended up with more runs.
Dave Boswell(15-14) was tagged with the loss. He allowed just 2 runs and 4
hits in 9 innings. The Cleveland ballclub's record now stands at 56-80.
Minnesota continued their losing ways and their record is now 67-66. They
are 2-8 in their last ten games.

Don Wert had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the Detroit Tigers topped the Kansas
City Royals by a score of 6 to 4 at Municipal Stadium.
Detroit erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning plating 3 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. Norm Cash led off and keyed the rally when he
doubled. After an out was recorded, Dick McAuliffe came to bat and drew a
walk. Bill Freehan then drew a walk to load the bases. Wert came up and he
delivered a base-hit plating two runs. Fred Lasher came to the plate and
laid down a sacrifice bunt. Mickey Stanley kept things alive and was walked
intentionally to load the bases. Tom Tresh stepped up to the plate and he
laced a base-knock scoring the final run of the inning. For the game Detroit
out-hit Kansas City 14 to 9.
Lasher(3-1) went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Lasher was
helped out by Tom Timmermann who recorded his 3rd save. Mike Hedlund(12-8)
absorbed the loss.
