Edmondson(9-14) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Baltimore offense.
He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings.

Jim Palmer(18-9) was the loser. 'I thought it was my best performance in a
long time,' said Edmondson. 'I had good command early in the game. I had my

Frank Howard had 5 hits and 2 RBI at R.F.K. Stadium as the Washington Senators
beat the awful California Angels in 13 innings 7 to 6.
Both teams were tied at 6 runs apiece after nine innings. Finally, Washington
pulled the game out in the 13th inning. After two outs Howard took matters
into his own hands and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' giving Washington the
win much to the delight of the home town crowd. Washington had 13 hits
overall, while California had 7.
Dave Baldwin(1-3) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Steve
Kealey(1-8) was hit with the loss in relief. He allowed 2 hits and no walks
in 1 and 2/3 innings.

The game was decided in the top of the 8th inning. After an out was recorded,
Rick Reichardt doubled. Bill Voss was next and he laced a base-hit scoring
the run. California managed 12 hits in their victory.
Pedro Borbon(2-1) allowed no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Dennis Higgins(4-2) took the loss in relief. California knocked him
