Bob Miller tossed a complete game and Rich Reese had 4 hits and scored 3 times
at Fenway Park as the Minnesota Twins beat the Boston Red Sox 7 to
6.
Miller(9-8) pitched a fine game. He went 9 innings surrendering 13 hits and 1
walk. This was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead changed
hands 5 times.
Sparky Lyle(3-3) was the loser in relief. He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 5 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.

Jim Merritt was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and Alex Johnson had 2 base hits at Crosley Field where the
Cincinnati Reds beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 6 to
2.
Cincinnati took the lead off Bob Moose in the first inning scoring one runner.
Cincinnati had 12 hits for the night.
Merritt(9-7) was the winner allowing 2 runs for the game. Moose(12-10)
suffered the loss. He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 10 hits and 1
walk.
'It felt really nice to get this win,' Merritt said. 'I kind of dictated the
game. It's what I get paid to do. It worked out this time.'
