The Kansas City Royals won by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2. Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Kansas City won the game in the 11th inning. Ellie Rodriguez drew a walk. Jackie Hernandez stepped into the batter's box and he lined a base-hit. Jim Rooker then ripped a single, and an error was also committed, giving Kansas City the win as 21,464 happy fans joyfully celebrated. Kansas City banged out 7 hits on the afternoon. Rooker(10-9) was the winner allowing no runs in 3 and 2/3 innings. Sparky Lyle(3-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He was pinned with the loss despite not allowing an earned run in his 3 innings of work. The Kansas City ballclub's record now stands at 52-68. Boston has a record of 61-59 after the loss.
