Minnesota won the game with a rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Tony Oliva started the attack as he delivered a single. Harmon Killebrew followed and he blasted a two-run home run. Minnesota finished with 7 hits in the victory. Ron Perranoski(4-6) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. Mel Stottlemyre(8-12) ended up with the loss. He allowed just 4 runs and 7 hits in 9 innings. After the game, it took a long while before Ralph Houk emerged from his office. In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions. He concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood this afternoon, as I think you'll understand. I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more light-hearted over in the Minnesota locker room.' Northrup helped send the fans home happy. He doubled in the 4th inning, laced a base-knock in the 5th inning, laced a one-base hit which was good for two runs in the 7th inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 8th inning. Detroit had 18 hits for the night. For McLain(15-12) it was his 6th shutout this year. The losing pitcher was Tom Murphy(5-12). He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 11 hits and 5 walks in 6 innings. Lefty Phillips was obviously impressed with the pitching of McLain, 'That guy made us look a little silly out there tonight. We just couldn't get to him at all - everything was working for him. I just hope that he got that kinda performance out of his system.' Stadium. It seemed that Kansas City pitching was serving up softballs for Epstein to hit. He belted a three-run homer in the 1st inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 2nd inning and doubled in the 8th inning. After the 4th inning, neither team was able to score. The victory went to Bosman(15-6) who went the distance allowing 1 run. The right-handed Bosman had his no-hit bid broken up by Joe Foy who singled with two outs in the 7th inning. Bill Butler(4-8) was the losing pitcher. He served up 3 homeruns in his 1 and 2/3 innings. Joe Gordon lamented, 'Bosman was really aggressive tonight. He kept coming after our hitters.
