Al Kaline blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Mickey Lolich tossed a complete
game as the Detroit Tigers topped the California Angels by a score of 9 to 2
at Tiger Stadium.
Kaline made sure the Detroit fans enjoyed themselves. He cleared the fences
for a two-run home run in the 1st inning and blasted a two-run home run in
the 7th inning. Detroit had a total of 11 hits for the game.
Lolich(12-11), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Rudy
May(7-9) took the loss. He pitched 4 innings allowing 4 hits and 2 walks.

Sonny Siebert completed the game without help from the bullpen as the Boston
Red Sox defeated the Chicago (AL) White Sox 7 to 1 at Comiskey Park.
Boston tallied 5 runs in the top of the 5th inning with the help of 4 hits.
The critical plate appearance was by Rico Petrocelli who silenced the stadium
when he depressed the partisan hometown fans with a grand slam home run.
Boston finished with 11 hits in the victory.
Siebert(15-7) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. Paul Edmondson(8-11)

Jim Shellenback didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning as the Washington
Senators beat the Kansas City Royals by a score of 3 to 0.
Shellenback(8-9) was virtually untouchable. He allowed just 1 hit and 4 walks
in 8 innings reducing his ERA from 4.22 to 3.94. The left-handed Shellenback
lost his chance for a no-hitter when Jackie Hernandez doubled with nobody out
in the 6th inning. Washington had just 6 hits for the night.
Darold Knowles earned his 13th save. The loss was charged to Roger
Nelson(12-9). He pitched 7 innings and surrendered 5 hits and 2 walks.

Carroll(7-9) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Philadelphia offense.
He surrendered only 3 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings dropping his ERA from
3.57 to 3.36. Cincinnati totaled 9 hits on the night.
Jerry Johnson(4-7) was hit with the loss. He allowed 4 runs and 5 hits in 6
