Mel Stottlemyre shutout Oakland while allowing the New York (AL) bullpen a
day-off at Yankee Stadium as the New York (AL) Yankees won in their last
at-bat beating the Oakland Athletics by the count of 1 to 0.
The game was won by New York (AL) when they scored a run in the 9th inning.
Roy White smacked a single. After an out was recorded, Jimmie Hall came to
the plate and banged out a single. Gene Michael then drew a walk to load the
bases. After another out, Bill Robinson came to bat and drew a walk giving
New York (AL) the win as 13,609 happy fans joyfully celebrated. New York
(AL) had only 6 hits for the afternoon.
It was the 2nd shutout of the year for Stottlemyre(8-11). Jim Roland(10-3)
took the loss. New York (AL) now has a record of 45-68. With the loss,

What an evening for the California Angels! They shellacked the Boston Red Sox
pitching for 11 runs while Jim McGlothlin(5-11), with relief help from Bob
Priddy, surrendered 2 runs to Boston.
California had 5 runs cross the plate in the top of the 2nd inning with the
help of 6 hits. That was all the runs McGlothlin needed. California
finished with 15 hits while Boston ended up with 3.
McGlothlin was helped out by Priddy who recorded his 1st save. Sonny
Siebert(14-7) was the loser. He gave up 6 hits and 1 walk in 1 and 2/3
innings.
