Oakland never recovered after Cleveland took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd
inning when they scored 2 runs on 2 hits. That was all Mike Paul(9-10)
needed. Cleveland had 7 hits for the afternoon.
Paul got help from Dick Ellsworth who earned his 2nd save. Catfish
Hunter(11-11) took the loss. He gave up 4 runs and 7 hits in 8 innings.

Dave McNally was on top of his game, blanking Kansas City on just 1 hit at
Memorial Stadium as the spectacular Baltimore Orioles beat the Kansas City
Royals 4 to 0.
McNally(16-6) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Kansas City
hitters. He didn't give up much, just 1 hit and no walks in 9 innings.
Baltimore finished with 9 hits in the victory.
The loss was charged to Roger Nelson(12-8). 'We didn't have a whole lot of
chances tonight,' Joe Gordon said. 'McNally just was too much for our guys.'

Pete Mikkelsen went 4 and one third solid innings and Manny Mota had 2 base
hits and 2 RBI as the Los Angeles Dodgers bested the Pittsburgh Pirates in 15
innings 7 to 6 at Dodger Stadium.
The game was deadlocked at 6 after nine full innings. Los Angeles won the
game in the 15th inning. Andy Kosco clubbed a solo home run giving Los
Angeles the victory and sending the 51,153 home-town fans home happy. Los
Angeles totaled 12 hits on the night.
Mikkelsen(6-1) got the win allowing no runs in 4 and 1/3 innings. The losing
pitcher was Steve Blass(6-5) in relief. He pitched 3 innings allowing 2 hits
and no walks.
With the win, Los Angeles continued their winning ways; their streak now
stands at 6 games and counting. 'Everything seems to be going right for us'
