Chuck Taylor was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and right fielder Vada Pinson jacked one out of the ballyard as
the St. Louis Cardinals topped the San Francisco Giants by a score of 2 to 1
at Busch Stadium.
St. Louis brought 1 run across the plate in the 6th inning with the help of 3
hits. That run would be the difference in the contest. San Francisco tried
unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
The victory went to Taylor(7-8) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Ron
Herbel(7-9) was charged with the loss. He allowed 2 runs and 9 hits in 8
innings.

Don Sutton pitched a complete game at Wrigley Field as the Los Angeles Dodgers
beat the Chicago (NL) Cubs 4 to 3.
Los Angeles won the game with a run in the 9th inning. After two outs Willie
Davis delivered a solo blast. Chicago (NL) went down without a fight in the
bottom of the 9th.
Sutton(11-10) was the winner allowing 3 runs for the game. Dick Selma(10-6)
was given the loss. He gave up 4 runs and 6 hits in 9 innings.

Nolan Ryan mowed down 10 Cincinnati batters as the New York (NL) Mets defeated
the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 5 to 1 at Shea Stadium.
Ryan(9-2) pitched a solid game. He allowed only 3 hits and 4 walks in 7
innings. Both teams totaled 6 hits on the afternoon.
Jim Merritt(6-5) was hit with the loss. Everyone seemed to enjoy the
performance of Ryan - except Cincinnati. Dave Bristol lamented, 'He just was
'on' this afternoon. He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine
game by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans
- unfortunately we were the visitors!'

Gary Waslewski didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning and third baseman Coco
Laboy ripped 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Fulton Co. Stadium as the Montreal
Expos beat the Atlanta Braves 7 to 0.
Laboy had a big day against Atlanta. He launched a three-run homer in the 1st
inning and cracked a solo homerun in the 6th inning. Montreal rapped out 11
hits for the night.
It was the 2nd shutout of the year for Waslewski(4-10). The right-handed
Waslewski lost his no-hit bid when Felix Millan singled with one out in the
6th inning. Milt Pappas(8-9) was the loser. He surrended 3 homeruns in his
6 and 2/3 innings.
