Jim Palmer dominated striking out 13 Chicago (AL) batters at Memorial Stadium
as the impressive Baltimore Orioles beat the Chicago (AL) White Sox by the
count of 4 to 3.
Palmer(14-6) had a solid outing for Baltimore. He went 9 innings surrendering
8 hits and 3 walks and surrendered 2 'round-trippers'. Chicago (AL) went
down without a fight in the 9th.
Paul Edmondson(6-10) was the loser. Don Gutteridge was upset after the game.
'I don't like to complain but did you see that umpires strike zone?', he
said. 'Maybe they ought to start calling the strike zone the way it's
printed in the rule book.'

Mickey Lolich went the distance as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Kansas City
Royals by a score of 7 to 3 at Tiger Stadium.
Detroit won the game with a rally in the 8th inning when they tallied 4 runs
on 5 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Jim Northrup who made the
crowd happy when he doubled which was good for two runs. Detroit rapped out
14 hits for the night.
The win was credited to Lolich(10-10) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs.
Jim Rooker(9-7) took the loss in relief.

the Minnesota Twins 7 to 0.
Cleveland tallied 5 runs in the 4th inning when they came up with 4 base hits.
The biggest moment was provided by Frank Baker who thrilled the crowd when
he cleared the bases with a Grand Slam homerun. Minnesota was out-hit by
Cleveland, 11 hits to 5.
The victory went to Mike Paul(8-9) who went 8 innings, allowing no runs. Dave
Boswell(12-10) was given the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners

Jim Fregosi hit one over the fence and had 4 RBI and Rudy May struck out 10
batters at Anaheim Stadium where the California Angels beat the slumping New
York (AL) Yankees 5 to 1.
The California fans enjoyed the offense provided by Fregosi. He doubled which
brought home a run in the 3rd inning and smashed a two-run homer in the 5th
inning. California had a total of 12 hits for the game.
The winning pitcher was May(7-7) who allowed 1 run for the game. Al
Downing(5-7) was tagged with the loss. He pitched 5 innings giving up 8 hits
and no walks.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of May - except New York (AL). Ralph
Houk lamented, 'He just was 'on' tonight. He was keeping our guys off
balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun
game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were the visitors!'
