Andy Kosco connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI as the Los Angeles Dodgers
defeated the San Francisco Giants 7 to 3 at Candlestick Park.
Don Sutton(10-10) pitched a fine game. He went 7 and 1/3 innings surrendering
8 hits and 4 walks. Los Angeles out-hit San Francisco for the game, 13 hits
to 8.
Sutton got relief help from Al McBean who gained credit for his 3rd save. Ray
Sadecki(0-6) took the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 3 walks
in 6 innings.
The win by Los Angeles is a very welcome one as they have been struggling in
recent days. Their record now stands at 49-45 - only 2-8 in their last ten
games. With the loss San Francisco now has a record of 56-40.

Joe Niekro went 9 strong innings as the San Diego Padres defeated the Atlanta
Braves by the score of 2 to 0 at Fulton Co. Stadium.
San Diego scored 2 runs in the 4th inning. After the 4th inning, neither team
was able to score. Niekro(6-10) was credited with the shutout, his first of
the year. George Stone(6-7) was hit with the loss. He allowed just 2 runs
and 5 hits in 8 innings.
'All of my pitches were working today,' Niekro said. 'I felt really good out
there, and heck, I think I could have gone longer.'

Greg Goossen left the yard and had 2 RBI as the Seattle Pilots defeated the
Minnesota Twins in 11 innings by a score of 6 to 4 at Sicks Stadium.
The score was tied at 4 after nine. Seattle came out on top in the 11th
inning. Wayne Comer led off and got things going when he slapped a one-base
hit. After an out was recorded, Jerry McNertney stepped up to the plate and
he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run resulting in a mighty
exciting win for Seattle and the 20,567 home town fans in attendance.
Seattle finished with 14 hits while Minnesota ended up with 8.
John O'Donoghue(6-6) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 innings and
allowing no runs. Dick Woodson(0-1) took the loss in relief.
