The New York (AL) Yankees edged the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium by the
score of 3 to 2.
New York (AL) came through with the game-winning runs in the 8th inning with 2
runs on 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Jerry Kenney opened up the
rally as he tripled. Bobby Murcer next to the plate and he bombed a two-run
dinger. Neither team was able to score until the 6th inning.
The victory went to Steve Hamilton(1-1) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.
Vicente Romo(5-5) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings
and surrendered 2 hits and no walks.

Jim Perry went 9 strong innings and first baseman Harmon Killebrew cracked a
homer and had 3 RBI at Metropolitan Stadium where the Minnesota Twins beat
the Chicago (AL) White Sox 5 to 0.
Perry(12-8) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He allowed just 6 hits
and no walks in 9 innings. Minnesota rapped out 8 hits for the night.
Gary Peters(6-6) took the loss. 'All of my pitches were working tonight,'
Perry said. 'I felt really good out there, and heck, I think I could have
gone longer.'

Horacio Pina went 3 and two third solid innings as the Cleveland Indians
bested the Baltimore Orioles 8 to 3 at Memorial Stadium.
Vern Fuller enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He cracked a two-run shot in
the 2nd inning, lined a single scoring two baserunners in the 3rd inning and
laced a base-hit in the 5th inning. Pina came throught with a perfect ninth
inning to earn his 4th save.
Mike Paul(7-9) went 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Mike
Cuellar(15-8) was given the loss. He allowed 5 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 2/3
innings.

Ed Brinkman had 2 base hits as the Washington Senators came back to win one
over Detroit Tigers, 4 to 3.
Washington scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning scoring 2 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Bernie Allen got things
rolling when he slapped a one-base hit. Brinkman followed and he laced a
base-knock. Jim French then drew a walk to load the bases. Brant Alyea
followed next and he hit a single resulting in an exciting win for Washington
and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. Washington
managed 8 hits in their victory.
Darold Knowles(7-0) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Earl
Wilson(6-9) was hit with the loss. He gave up 7 hits and 3 walks in 8 and
1/3 innings.
'We just wouldn't give up,' Brinkman said. 'Much of the credit goes to our
fans - they were with us the whole way.'
