Dave McNally went the distance at Memorial Stadium as the Baltimore Orioles
beat the Cleveland Indians by the count of 5 to 1.
Baltimore scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. The crucial at-bat
was provided by Paul Blair who made the crowd come alive when he caught a
hold of a fastball for a Grand Slam homerun. Although they lost, Cleveland
did out-hit Baltimore 8 to 5.

Ken Berry had 3 base hits and 2 RBI as the Chicago (AL) White Sox beat the
Minnesota Twins by a score of 8 to 2.
In the top of the 6th inning Chicago (AL) scored 6 runs when they had 6 base
hits. The highlight belonged to Gail Hopkins who deflated the mood of the
partisan fans when he slapped a one-base hit bringing in two baserunners.
Chicago (AL) ended up with 11 hits for the game while Minnesota had 8.
Tommy John(8-7) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 8 innings. Jim Kaat(1-3) was
hit with the loss. Don Gutteridge was just happy to get a win, 'We've had

Marcelino Lopez retired 10 batters on strikeouts and Paul Blair rocketed 2
homeruns and had 5 RBI as the spectacular Baltimore Orioles ballclub
embarrassed the Cleveland Indians by the count of 14 to 3.
Blair was spectacular at the plate. The hometown fans showed their
appreciation with a standing ovation his last time at bat. He ripped a
single in the 3rd inning, smashed a two-run homer in the 5th inning and
cracked a two-run shot in the 7th inning. Baltimore had a total of 17 hits
for the game.
Lopez(6-8) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. Dick Ellsworth(2-4)
was the losing pitcher. He served up 3 gopher balls in 7 innings.
Alvin Dark was upset after the game. 'I don't like to complain but did you
see that umpires strike zone?', he said. 'Maybe they ought to start calling
the strike zone the way it's printed in the rule book.'
