Catfish Hunter carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning as the Oakland
Athletics bested the reeling California Angels 3 to 0 at Oakland
Coliseum.
Hunter(9-9) dominated California hitters. He surrendered only 1 hit and 4
walks in 9 innings dropping his ERA from 4.08 to 3.86. The right-handed
Hunter had his no-hit bid broken up by Bill Voss who singled with one out in
the 7th inning. Oakland had only 6 hits for the game.
Clyde Wright(1-6) was given the loss. 'I thought it was my best performance
in a long time,' said Hunter. 'I had good command early in the game. I had my
control and composure and everything went well.'

Chuck Dobson hurled a fine complete game shutout as the Oakland Athletics
defeated the struggling California Angels by a score of 1 to 0 at Oakland
Coliseum.
Dobson(2-2) was very good in the win. He was stingy on the mound, allowing
just 5 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 3.83 to 3.31.
California threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Steve Kealey(0-6) suffered the loss. He gave up just 1 run and 5 hits in 7
innings. When questioned about the loss, Lefty Phillips said, 'The fans got
to see an exciting game out there this afternoon. Unfortunately, we couldn't
get it done this time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all
the smiles.'

Brooks Robinson touched them all and had 3 RBI and Mike Cuellar had a complete
game as the Baltimore Orioles topped the Boston Red Sox by a score of 7 to 2
at Memorial Stadium.
Baltimore came up with 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning with the help of
6 hits. The highlight belonged to Boog Powell who brought the crowd to their
feet when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run. Baltimore
totaled 11 hits on the afternoon.
The winning pitcher was Cuellar(15-7) who allowed 2 runs for the game. Ray
Culp(5-14) was hit with the loss. He surrendered 5 runs and 8 hits in 6
innings.

Bill Butler took a no-hitter into the 6th inning and Joe Foy had 3 base hits
and 4 RBI as the Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago (AL) White Sox by a
score of 10 to 2.
Butler(3-7) looked very much in control throughout the day. He allowed only 4
hits and 3 walks in 8 innings. The left-handed Butler lost a no-hitter when
Pete Ward doubled with one out in the 6th inning. Overall Kansas City
out-hit Chicago (AL) 13 to 5.
Jerry Nyman(5-5) absorbed the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 6
