The Oakland Athletics topped the Chicago (AL) White Sox by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5. The game was won by Oakland when they scored a run in the 9th inning. Reggie Jackson doubled. Two outs later Dick Green came to the plate and was walked intentionally. Rick Monday then was hit by a pitch. Phil Roof came up and he was hit by a pitch scoring the run. Offensively, Oakland was a juggernaut. They scored in 6 separate innings. Rollie Fingers(7-5) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Jack Hamilton(0-2) was the loser in relief.
