Mel Stottlemyre had a complete game and third baseman Jerry Kenney had 2 base
hits as the New York (AL) Yankees defeated the slumping Cleveland Indians by
the score of 4 to 3 at Yankee Stadium.
New York (AL) scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. The biggest
moment was provided by Jimmie Hall who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch
when he smashed a two-run homer. Cleveland threatened in the 9th but New
York (AL) was able to put down the rally.
Stottlemyre(7-7) lasted until the end allowing 3 runs for the win. Horacio
Pina(1-4) was tagged with the loss. He allowed 3 runs and 5 hits in 6
innings.

Jim Roland allowed Hank Bauer to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game and
Danny Cater slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Oakland Athletics defeated
the Minnesota Twins by a score of 6 to 2 at Metropolitan Stadium.
Cater had a big day against Minnesota. He stroked a single in the 4th inning,
doubled scoring two baserunners in the 5th inning and hit a bases-empty home
run in the 7th inning. Oakland finished with 9 hits in the victory.
Roland(7-2) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs. The loss was
charged to Tom Hall(5-6). He allowed 9 hits and 5 walks in 7 innings.

Tony Conigliaro knocked 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the Boston Red Sox crushed
the Washington Senators 13 to 2.
Conigliaro was spectacular at the plate. The hometown fans showed their
appreciation with a standing ovation his last time at bat. He belted a
three-run homer in the 7th inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the 8th
inning. Boston had 17 hits for the afternoon while Washington had 9.
Sonny Siebert(10-5) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings. Casey
Cox(8-5) was given the loss. He surrendered 12 hits and 1 walk in 6 and 2/3
innings.

Ed Brinkman jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI and Barry Moore took
a no-hitter into the 9th inning at Fenway Park as the Washington Senators
beat the Boston Red Sox by the count of 4 to 0.
Moore(2-3) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Boston
hitters. He didn't allow much, just 1 hit and 5 walks in 9 innings improving
his ERA from 3.86 to 2.86. The left-handed Moore had his no-hit bid broken
up by Syd O'Brien who singled with nobody out in the 9th inning. Both teams'
bats went to sleep after the 4th inning with no runs scored after that point.
Jim Lonborg(1-8) was charged with the loss. He pitched 6 innings allowing 8
hits and 4 walks.
