Carl Yastrzemski slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI at Tiger Stadium where the
Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers by the score of 7 to 3.
Lee Stange(9-2) gave Boston a solid outing. He went 8 innings allowing 9 hits
and 1 walk and gave up 2 homeruns. Boston had 11 hits for the afternoon.
Denny McLain(9-9) took the loss. He pitched 7 innings allowing 9 hits and 2

Right fielder Tony Oliva had 4 hits and 4 RBI and Dave Boswell retired 10
batters on strikeouts at Comiskey Park as the Minnesota Twins belted the
Chicago (AL) White Sox by the count of 16 to 1.
Oliva enjoyed a big day at the plate. He doubled which brought home a run in
the 4th inning, stroked a one-base hit in the 6th inning, lifted one out of
the park for a two run home run in the 7th inning and doubled knocking in a
run in the 8th inning. Minnesota bats were hot in the 4th inning which saw
them score 5 runs on 7 hits and the 8th inning with 5 runs on 4 hits.
Minnesota dominated offensively as they scored in 6 different innings.
Boswell(11-8) allowed 1 run on the game. The loss was charged to Joe
Horlen(4-9). He was not very effective, surrendering 6 runs in 3 and 2/3
innings.
Boswell, when asked about his 10 strikeout performance noted, 'The important
thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what good does it do our team?
But, on the other hand, since we won it feels great!'

Ken McMullen hit 2 doubles as the Washington Senators beat the struggling
Cleveland Indians in 14 innings by a score of 5 to 4.
The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Washington was victorious in
the 14th inning. Bernie Allen delivered a single. Ed Brinkman stepped into
the batter's box and he stroked a base-hit. After an out was recorded, Hank
Allen then drew a walk to load the bases. After another out, Jim French came
to bat and drew a walk scoring the run. It was roller coaster of a game as
the lead change hands 5 times.
Cisco Carlos(3-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. Dave Baldwin
recorded his 1st save. Horacio Pina(1-3) ended up with the loss in relief.
He pitched 1 inning giving up 2 hits and 2 walks.
