Right fielder Hank Aaron slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Atlanta Braves
defeated the Houston Astros by a score of 7 to 4 at The Astrodome.
The game started off with Atlanta taking the lead in the first as they scored
3 runs on 4 base hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Aaron who
silenced the stadium when he cleared the fences for a two-run home run. For
the game Atlanta out-hit Houston 15 to 10.
Milt Pappas(6-7) got the win allowing 4 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. Pappas got
relief help from Paul Doyle who gained credit for his 2nd save. The losing
pitcher was Don Wilson(4-12). He allowed a few too many baserunners giving
up 12 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.

The Pittsburgh Pirates put 8 runs on the scoreboard in the 8th inning and
cruised to a 10 to 3 victory over the New York (NL) Mets at Shea
Stadium.
Willie Stargell had a big day at the plate. He doubled in the 3rd inning,
lined a single in the 8th inning and quieted the crowd by clouting a Grand
Slam in the 8th inning. Pittsburgh out-hit New York (NL) for the game, 15
hits to 8.
Bo Belinsky(2-1) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. Don
Cardwell(0-2) took the loss in relief. He was knocked around pretty good,
giving up 9 runs in 2 innings.

The Cincinnati Reds edged the San Francisco Giants at Crosley Field by the
score of 6 to 5.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning Cincinnati scored 3 runs with the help of 3
hits. Clay Carroll got things going when he banged out a single. Pete Rose
was next and he drew a walk. Bobby Tolan then doubled driving in a run.
Alex Johnson stepped in and he delivered a single driving in another run.
After another out, Lee May came to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly scoring
the final run of the inning. Cincinnati rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.
Carroll(5-5) got the win allowing 5 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings. Carroll got
help from Wayne Granger who earned his 6th save. Gaylord Perry(12-7) took
the loss.
