Frank Howard homered as the Washington Senators outscored the Boston Red Sox 6
to 2.
Washington took the lead for good in the 6th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 3
base hits. Howard led off the inning for Washington when he delivered a
one-base hit. Mike Epstein came next and he drew a walk. Ken McMullen then
doubled bringing in a run. Bernie Allen followed and he delivered a base-hit
scoring the final run of the inning. Washington banged out 9 hits on the
afternoon.
Jim Hannan(3-3) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 7 innings. Darold Knowles
got the save, his 10th. Jim Lonborg(1-7) was the loser. He allowed 7 hits

It was a real slugfest in Oakland Coliseum where the Chicago (AL) White Sox
finally out-scored the Oakland Athletics by a score of 11 to 10 in.
The game was decided in the 9th inning. Bill Melton doubled. Ed Herrmann
followed next and he drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Ken Berry then
lashed a single to load the bases. Tommy McCraw was up next and he hit a
one-base hit scoring the run. Chicago (AL) totaled 10 hits on the afternoon.
Sammy Ellis(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing 7
runs. Wilbur Wood earned the save, his 16th. Ed Sprague(1-2) was charged
with the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 3 hits in 1 inning.
Chicago (AL) won for the 6th straight time.

Boog Powell connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI and Dave McNally allowed
just 3 hits as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Detroit Tigers 6 to 2 at
Memorial Stadium.
McNally(12-3) put on a good performance. He allowed just 3 hits and 5 walks
in 9 innings. After the 4th inning, neither team was able to score.
Mickey Lolich(8-6) was the losing pitcher. He struck out 9 batters in 6
innings despite losing the game.

Dick Drago had a complete game and catcher Ellie Rodriguez had 2 base hits at
Municipal Stadium where the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins by
the score of 2 to 1.
Drago(2-1) gave a fine effort for Kansas City. He went 9 innings surrendering
9 hits and no walks. Minnesota threatened in the 9th but Kansas City was
able to put down the rally.
Tom Hall(5-5) was hit with the loss. Billy Martin was subdued when questioned
after the game, 'Sure, this kind of loss takes a while to get over, but heck,
we're all professionals. We've been through this many times - it's the
nature of the game. We'll be fine - as for me - I'll be ready to go again
tomorrow!'
