In a close game it was the Kansas City Royals 5, the Oakland Athletics 3 at
Oakland Coliseum.
Kansas City scored the decisive runs in a big 8th inning when they scored 4
runs on 1 hit. The highlight belonged to Luis Alcaraz who deflated the crowd
as he doubled emptying the bases. The teams had been locked in a scoreless
duel until the 6th inning.
The win was credited to Wally Bunker(4-13) who went 7 innings allowing 3 runs.
Mike Hedlund earned the save, his 1st. Juan Pizarro(2-2) was given the loss
in relief. He had trouble throwing strikes and issued 6 walks in 2 innings.

Bob Allison cracked a homer as the Minnesota Twins defeated the California
Angels by a score of 7 to 4 at Anaheim Stadium.
Minnesota scored 4 runs in the 4th inning when they came up with 4 base hits.
They would hold up as the winning runs. California was retired without
difficulty in the bottom of the 9th.
The victory was credited to Dave Boswell(10-7) who went 7 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 4 runs. Ron Perranoski preserved the game for Boswell, recording his

Detroit Tigers 3 to 1 at Tiger Stadium.
Peterson(11-7) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Detroit offense. He
allowed only 3 hits and no walks in 9 innings. New York (AL) finished with 7
hits in the victory.
Denny McLain(8-8) suffered the loss. 'Peterson took our guys to school' Mayo
Smith said. 'Too bad he doesn't pitch for us - it would make my job a whole

hits for the game.
