Both teams had scored 3 runs after nine full innings. Cincinnati ended up winning it in the 11th inning. After two outs Bobby Tolan ripped a single. Tolan was safe on a stolen base. Ted Savage then delivered a single making Cincinnati the victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Cincinnati had 13 hits for the night while San Diego had 7. The win was credited to Wayne Granger(4-3) who went 2 innings allowing no runs. The right-handed Maloney lost his no-hit bid when Al Ferrara doubled with one out in the 6th inning. The loss was charged to Billy McCool(2-1) in relief. He surrendered 4 hits and no walks in 1 and 2/3 innings. The Cincinnati ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 40-23. Preston Gomez was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 2-8 in the last week or two. That won't get it done.'
