In a close game the Oakland Athletics got by the Minnesota Twins by the score
of 5 to 3.
Oakland came through with the game-winning runs in the 8th inning plating 2
runs on 2 base hits. Sal Bando opened up the inning nicely when he drew a
walk. Danny Cater stepped up next and he lined a base-hit. Cater took
second on the throw. Dick Green then stroked a single scoring two teammates.
Minnesota proved to be no trouble in the 9th.
Juan Pizarro(2-1) went 4 innings allowing no runs for the win. Tom Hall(5-4)
took the loss. The Oakland ballclub's record now stands at 35-29. With the
loss Minnesota now has a record of 36-30.

The Oakland Athletics bested the Minnesota Twins by a 7 to 3 score at Oakland
Coliseum.
Oakland tallied 5 runs in the 7th inning when they came up with 3 base hits.
The big moment was provided by Bob Johnson who elicited a roar from the
hometown fans when he launched a three-run homer. Oakland finished with 10
hits in the victory.
Ed Sprague(1-1) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Juan
Pizarro was credited with his 3rd save. Jim Kaat(1-1) was tagged with the
loss.

One run was the difference at Fenway Park as the Boston Red Sox defeated the
New York (AL) Yankees in 10 innings 7 to 6.
Both teams had scored 6 runs after nine full innings. Boston won the hard
fought contest in the 10th inning. Mike Andrews banged out a single.
Andrews was safe on a stolen base. Carl Yastrzemski then doubled giving
Boston the win much to the delight of the home town crowd. Boston finished
with 12 hits while New York (AL) ended up with 9.
The victory was credited to Vicente Romo(4-3) who went 2 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 2 runs. Lindy McDaniel(4-7) was hit with the loss in relief.
