Jim McAndrew hurled a fine complete game shutout and Cleon Jones slammed a
homerun as the New York (NL) Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by a
score of 2 to 0 at Shibe Park.
McAndrew(4-0) had a strong outing. He didn't allow much, just 8 hits and 3
walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 1.24. New York (NL) had only 6 hits
for the night.
Woodie Fryman(5-10) was the loser. New York (NL) now has a record of 29-30.
With the loss, the Philadelphia ballclub's record is 24-34.

Chicago (NL) Cubs 7 to 0.
Moose(7-4) was simply too much for the Chicago (NL) batters. He didn't give
up much, just 5 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 2.67 to
2.45. Pittsburgh totaled 13 hits on the night.
Fergie Jenkins(9-6) absorbed the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 9 hits and 2

In a close game the St. Louis Cardinals got by the reeling Montreal Expos by
the score of 5 to 3.
Mudcat Grant(5-3) came on to close the door tight in relief. No one got on
base in his perfect 1 and 1/3 innings. Montreal was out-hit by St. Louis, 11
hits to 8.
Bill Stoneman(0-9) was the losing pitcher in relief. He surrendered 3 runs in
2 innings and saw his ERA increase from 4.43 to 4.71.

The Chicago (AL) White Sox had very little trouble at Comiskey Park downing
the Seattle Pilots. The score was 7 to 2.
Chicago (AL) drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
scoring 3 runners on 4 hits. That early scoring was all that Tommy John(5-7)
needed. Chicago (AL) had 12 hits for the night while Seattle had 5.
John got help from Wilbur Wood who was credited with his 13th save. The
losing pitcher was John Gelnar(7-4). The winning ways continue for Chicago
(AL). They now have a record of 8-2 in recent days. Not able to get much
going in recent weeks, Seattle is 2-8 of late and now has an overall record
of 34-29.
