The Minnesota Twins topped the Cleveland Indians by the slimmest of margins, 5 to 4. Minnesota had the game winning rally in the 8th inning with 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. Rich Reese led off the inning for Minnesota when he lined a base-hit. After an out was recorded, Rod Carew came up and he lined a single. Harmon Killebrew then clubbed a three-run home run. Cleveland had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. The win went to Bob Miller(4-5) who allowed 4 runs in 8 innings. Ron Perranoski earned his 8th save. Sam McDowell(8-8) suffered the loss. While he was the losing pitcher, he still struck out 11 batters in 7 and 1/3 innings. Alvin Dark was subdued when questioned after the game, 'Sure, this kind of loss takes a while to get over, but heck, we're all professionals.
