squared off in a tense pitching duel, Houston Astros finally emerged
victorious over St. Louis Cardinals, 2 to 0.

Gaylord Perry completed the game without help from the bullpen as the San
Francisco Giants beat the Montreal Expos by a score of 6 to 3.
San Francisco had 3 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 2nd inning with
the help of 3 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Perry who elicited a
roar from the hometown fans when he doubled with all three runners coming
home. San Francisco rapped out 9 hits for the night.
