Athletics lost a heartbreaker to Washington Senators by the score of 5 to
4.
Washington scored the deciding run in the 9th inning. After an out was
recorded, Del Unser drew a walk. A balk was called. Lee Maye then lined a
single. Rollie Fingers then threw one that got by the catcher for a passed
ball giving Washington the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy.

The winning pitcher was Bob Humphreys(3-1) who allowed no runs in 1/3 of an
inning. Fingers(3-5) was charged with the loss in relief.

Phil Niekro had a strong outing as the Atlanta Braves outscored the Chicago
(NL) Cubs in 13 innings 3 to 2.
The score was tied at 2 after nine. Atlanta won it in the 13th inning. Clete
Boyer drew a walk. Garr got a good lead and stole second. After an out was
recorded, Sonny Jackson then smacked a single resulting in an exciting win
for Atlanta and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans.
Overall Atlanta out-hit Chicago (NL) 11 to 7.
Cecil Upshaw(4-1) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. Ted
Abernathy(2-2) was tagged with the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3

Third baseman Tony Taylor had 2 base hits at Dodger Stadium as the
Philadelphia Phillies beat the Los Angeles Dodgers by the count of 3 to
2.
The game was decided in the top of the 9th inning. Don Money ripped a
one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Taylor came up and he stroked a
base-hit scoring the run. Neither team was able to score until the 7th
inning.
The win went to Rick Wise(5-8) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. John Boozer
preserved the game for Wise, recording his his 2nd save. Al McBean(1-2) was
the loser in relief. He gave up 2 hits and no walks in 1 inning.
