| KANSAS CITY AT BOSTON
Royals.......... 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 3 0 - 4 6 1
Red Sox......... 0 0 0 2 1 0 0 0 0 - 3 8 0
Win:Nelson(8-2) Loss:Nagy(3-8)
Homeruns- R.Petrocelli(11th)
Roger Nelson pitched a complete game as the Kansas City Royals defeated the
Boston Red Sox by a score of 4 to 3 at Fenway Park.
Kansas City had the game winning rally in the top of the 8th inning plating 3
runs. Mike Fiore led off and keyed the rally when he drew a walk. Lou
Piniella followed and he drew a walk. Joe Foy then was hit by a pitch. Ed
Kirkpatrick stepped in and he hit a sacrifice fly bringing in a run. After
another out, Bob Oliver came up and he ripped a one-base hit which was good
for two more runs. Boston made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable
to push the needed runs across.
The victory was credited to Nelson(8-2) who went the distance, allowing 3
runs. Mike Nagy(3-8) was given the loss. Despite losing Dick Williams was
optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over this one. Sometimes the breaks
fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one of a dozen little things go
different, and we come out on top.'
