32,307 fans were treated to a fine game at Tiger Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Detroit Tigers won by the
slimmest of margins, 7 to 6.
Mickey Lolich(7-4) pitched well for Detroit in their victory. He surrendered
7 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings. Lolich struckout 8 Oakland batters and
served up 2 'big flies'. Oakland threatened in the 9th but Detroit was able
to put down the rally.
Lolich got relief help from Don McMahon who gained credit for his 3rd save.
Jim Nash(4-4) was hit with the loss. 'It's a disheartening loss, no question
about it' said Hank Bauer 'But we have to get over it and get ready for the
next game.'

The Washington Senators bested the Minnesota Twins by a 6 to 2 score at
Metropolitan Stadium.
Washington erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning when they
tallied 5 runs on 3 hits. The highlight belonged to Brant Alyea who silenced
the stadium when he slapped a base-hit which was good for two runs.
Washington finished with 7 hits in the victory.
Darold Knowles(3-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 2 and 2/3
innings. Tom Hall(5-3) was tagged with the loss. Despite losing, he
struckout 10 Washington batters in 7 and 2/3 innings.

Tony Perez had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Wrigley Field as the Cincinnati Reds won in
dramatic fashion coming back to beat the Chicago (NL) Cubs by the count of 5
to 3.
Cincinnati scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 9th inning scoring 3
runs utilizing 2 base hits. Ted Savage opened up the inning nicely when he
drew a walk. Perez stepped up next and he lined a single. Lee May then
rifled a three-run blast. Cincinnati had 14 hits for the game and Chicago
(NL) had 11.
Wayne Granger(3-3) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 2 innings. Dick
Selma(5-4) was charged with the loss. He was touched for 14 hits and 4 walks
in 8 innings.
