Right fielder Frank Robinson rocketed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Dave
Leonhard went the distance as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the California
Angels 11 to 2 at Anaheim Stadium.
Robinson propelled Baltimore to victory. He cleared the fences for a two-run
home run in the 1st inning, banged out a single in the 3rd inning, lined a
one-base hit in the 4th inning, blasted a solo shot in the 6th inning and
singled in the 7th inning. Baltimore banged out 17 hits on the afternoon.
Leonhard(4-2) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. The losing
pitcher was Andy Messersmith(4-6). He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 10 hits and 5 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.
'Some days it just all comes together, and this was one of them' Robinson
said. 'I've been seeing the ball pretty well lately.'

Joe Coleman carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning and Brant Alyea had 4 hits
and 5 RBI as the Washington Senators really laid it on the Chicago (AL) White
Sox 15 to 2.
It was a good day for Washington thanks to Alyea. He laced a one-base hit in
the 2nd inning, stroked a base-hit scoring two baserunners in the 4th inning,
stroked a single which was good for two runs in the 7th inning and doubled
scoring a run in the 8th inning. Washington bats were hot in the 4th inning
with 4 runs on 3 hits, the 7th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 3 hits
and the 8th inning which saw them score 6 runs on 7 hits. Washington out-hit
Chicago (AL) for the game, 17 hits to 4.
Coleman(5-5) went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. The
right-handed Coleman lost a no-hitter when Pete Ward singled with nobody out
in the 6th inning. Coleman got help from Bob Humphreys who earned his 3rd
save. Tommy John(3-6) was given the loss.
Washington now has a record of 30-23. With the loss, Chicago (AL) has a
record of 4-6 lately, 18-26 overall.

Lew Krausse went 9 strong innings at Oakland Coliseum as the Oakland Athletics
beat the Cleveland Indians by the count of 6 to 2.
Oakland set the tone of the game in the first inning as they scored 2 runs on
2 base hits. The key at-bat was by Reggie Jackson who elicited a roar from
the hometown fans when he smashed a two-run homer. Oakland had 9 hits for
the afternoon.
The victory went to Krausse(1-0) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. Mike
Paul(4-4) ended up with the loss. Oakland knocked him around a bit, as he
gave up 5 runs in 2 innings.
'Krausse pitched a gem of a game', Alvin Dark recounted. 'He kept our batters
off balance the entire game.'
