Frank Baker had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Oakland Coliseum where the Cleveland
Indians beat the Oakland Athletics by the score of 5 to 3.
Cleveland scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning with 2 runs. After two
outs Larry Brown began the rally when he drew a walk. Baker came to the
plate and clubbed a two-run home run. The Oakland bats were silent in the
bottom of the 9th.
The win was credited to Larry Burchart(2-3) who went 2 and 2/3 innings
allowing no runs. Rollie Fingers(3-4) was the losing pitcher in relief.

Dave Boswell allowed Billy Martin to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and Rod Carew had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Fenway Park as the Minnesota Twins beat
the Boston Red Sox by the count of 8 to 2.
Boswell(6-5) had a strong outing. He allowed just 5 hits and 2 walks in 9
innings reducing his ERA from 4.36 to 4.15. After the 4th inning, neither
team was able to score.

The California Angels and the Baltimore Orioles locked up in an exciting
one-run game at Anaheim Stadium. The final score was the California Angels
2, the Baltimore Orioles 1.
California scored the deciding run in the 8th inning. Jay Johnstone banged
out a single. Jim Fregosi was next and he laced a one-base hit. Rick
Reichardt then hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run. Baltimore had a chance
in the 9th but they came up short.
Hoyt Wilhelm(3-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Wilhelm got relief help from Ken Tatum who gained credit
for his 5th save. The loss was charged to Mike Cuellar(10-4).
'This was a tough loss,' said Earl Weaver, 'the kind that sticks with you for
awhile.'
