Third baseman Ken McMullen had 2 base hits at R.F.K. Stadium as the Washington
Senators beat the Chicago (AL) White Sox by the count of 1 to 0.
Joe Horlen(2-7) gave up the game's only run when Washington scored in the
bottom of the 2nd inning. That was all the runs Casey Cox(7-1) needed.
Chicago (AL) had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
Cox got help from Darold Knowles who was credited with his 6th save.

Gary Peters tossed a complete game shutout as the Chicago (AL) White Sox
defeated the Washington Senators by a score of 3 to 0 at R.F.K.
Stadium.
Peters(2-3) was very good in the win. He allowed only 4 hits and 4 walks in 9
innings lowering his ERA to 2.98. Neither team managed to score after the
4th inning.
Jim Shellenback(3-6) was charged with the loss. He pitched 8 innings allowing

Danny Cater had 4 hits and 3 RBI and Catfish Hunter went the distance at
Oakland Coliseum as the Oakland Athletics belted the Cleveland Indians by the
count of 13 to 3.
The Oakland fans enjoyed the offense provided by Cater. He doubled in the 2nd
inning, laced a single in the 3rd inning, clubbed a two-run home run in the
6th inning and banged out a one-base hit scoring a run in the 8th inning.
The Oakland offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.
The win was credited to Hunter(5-5) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs.
Sam McDowell(7-5) absorbed the loss. He was knocked around pretty good,
giving up 8 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.

Oakland tallied 5 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning with the help of 4
hits. That early run support was enough for Jim Roland(4-1) and Oakland.
Oakland and Cleveland each finished the afternoon with 8 hits.
Rollie Fingers preserved the game for Roland, recording his his 4th save.

At Municipal Stadium the New York (AL) Yankees easily handled the Kansas City
Royals in 11 innings by the score of 7 to 3.
The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. New York (AL) came out
the victor in the 11th inning. The big moment was provided by Bobby Murcer
who helped quiet the crowd when he tripled with all three baserunners
touching home. New York (AL) ended up with 11 hits for the game while Kansas
City had 4.
The win went to Lindy McDaniel(1-3) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Tom
Burgmeier(1-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 4 hits and 4
