Right fielder Bill Voss homered and had 2 RBI as the California Angels
defeated the Boston Red Sox in 11 innings by a score of 4 to 3 at Fenway
Park.
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. Finally, California
prevailed in the 11th inning. Rick Reichardt tripled. Voss followed next
and he lashed a single scoring the run. Boston could do no damage in the
bottom of the 11th.
Bob Priddy(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Ken Tatum earned the
save, his 4th. The loss was charged to Mike Nagy(3-6).

Lou Piniella hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the Kansas City Royals beat the
Cleveland Indians in 10 innings by a score of 6 to 3.
Both teams had scored 3 runs after nine full innings. Kansas City came out
the victor in the 10th inning. Ed Kirkpatrick led off and got things going
when he ripped a one-base hit. Jim Rooker came next and he delivered a
single. Jackie Hernandez then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Pat Kelly came up
and he drew a walk to load the bases. Piniella came to the plate and smacked
a single driving home two runs. Joe Foy kept things alive and reached on an
error scoring the final run of the inning. Kansas City ended up with 9 hits
for the game while Cleveland had 6.
Rooker(4-2) was the winner allowing no runs in 3 innings. Ron Law(2-3) was the
loser in relief. He allowed 3 runs and 3 hits in 2/3 of an inning.

Second baseman Dick McAuliffe had 2 base hits and Denny McLain allowed only 3
hits resulting in a big goose egg on the scoreboard for Chicago (AL) at
Comiskey Park as the Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago (AL) White Sox by the
count of 3 to 0.
McLain(4-5) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Chicago (AL)
hitters. He allowed only 3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop
from 3.14 to 2.84. Detroit had a total of 9 hits for the game.
Joe Horlen(2-6) was tagged with the loss. He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings giving
up 8 hits and 3 walks. 'When McLain is on like that it is a tough game to
play, no doubt about it,' Don Gutteridge said. 'He always pitches well
