The hometown crowd was rewarded with a dramatic ending, as the Boston Red Sox
staged a comeback win over the California Angels by the count of 4 to
3.
Boston scored the winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs using 2 hits.
George Scott led off and he drew a walk. Tom Satriano next to the plate and
he doubled driving in a run. Ken Tatum then had one get away for a wild
pitch. Joe Lahoud followed and he drew a walk. Mike Andrews came to the
plate and lined a one-base hit making Boston the victor and beginning a
joyous home town celebration. Both teams ended up with 8 hits on the night.
The win was credited to Vicente Romo(3-2) who went 2 innings allowing no runs.
The loss was charged to Tatum(0-1) in relief.
Dick Williams was in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when
asked about his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he
volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I know how my counterpart, Lefty
Phillips, feels right now - and it's not very good. It's terrible when you
come up on the short end of one of these!'

Sam McDowell retired 12 batters on strikeouts and third baseman Lou Klimchock
had 3 base hits and 2 RBI as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Kansas City
Royals in 12 innings by the score of 3 to 2 at Municipal Stadium.
The score was tied at 2 after nine. Cleveland came out on top in the 12th
inning. Tony Horton laced a single. Ken Harrelson came next and he drew a
walk. After an out was recorded, Duke Sims then drew a walk to load the
bases. One out later, Eddie Leon stepped up to the plate and he banged out a
single making Cleveland victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd.
Cleveland and Kansas City each finished the night with 9 hits.
Mike Paul(4-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no
runs. Tom Burgmeier(1-1) was hit with the loss in relief.
