Mike Cuellar completed the game without help from the bullpen as the Baltimore
Orioles bested the Kansas City Royals 5 to 1 at Municipal Stadium.
Baltimore took the lead off Wally Bunker in the first inning scoring a single
run using 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Paul Blair tripled. Boog
Powell stepped into the batter's box and he stroked a one-base hit scoring
the run. Baltimore had a total of 8 hits for the game.
Cuellar(10-1) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 1 run. Bunker(2-8)
suffered the loss. He gave up 5 runs and 8 hits in 8 innings.

Aurelio Rodriguez slammed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Rudy May had an
impressive outing as the California Angels outscored the New York (AL)
Yankees 6 to 0.
Rodriguez had a big day with his bat. He clubbed a two-run home run in the
4th inning and bombed a two-run dinger in the 6th inning. California managed
8 hits in their victory.
May(2-4) went the distance for the shutout. The loss was charged to Fritz
Peterson(5-5). 'After the stretch we have been through lately, this victory
is especially sweet' offered Lefty Phillips. Now, we just have to make this
the norm - not the exception!'

Jim McGlothlin had a strong outing as the California Angels beat the New York
(AL) Yankees by a score of 7 to 1.
California came up with 5 runs in the top of the 2nd inning when they had 3
base hits. That was all the runs McGlothlin(2-5) needed. California totaled
9 hits on the afternoon.
Mike Kekich(1-6) was the loser. He allowed California 5 runs in 2 innings of
work. 'I thought it was my best performance in a long time,' said
McGlothlin. 'I had good command early in the game. I had my control and
composure and everything went well.'

Dave Boswell went the distance at Metropolitan Stadium as the Minnesota Twins
beat the Detroit Tigers by the count of 4 to 1.
Minnesota had 2 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 4th inning. Rod
Carew led off and started the attack as he lined a base-hit. After another
out, Harmon Killebrew followed, but he was set down on strikes. Rich Reese
then was walked intentionally. Graig Nettles was up next and he doubled
knocking home two runners. Minnesota finished with 7 hits in the victory.
The win was credited to Boswell(4-4) who went the whole way allowing 1 run.
Denny McLain(3-5) was given the loss. Billy Martin was just happy to get a
win, 'We've had such a bad streak of games -- boy, it's great to get the
monkey off our back. Now maybe we can relax a little and play the kind of
baseball of which we are capable.'
