At Jarry Park the Pittsburgh Pirates easily handled the Montreal Expos by the
score of 7 to 3.
Pittsburgh had the game winning rally in the 8th inning scoring 4 runners on 2
hits. The biggest moment was provided by Willie Stargell who helped quiet
the crowd when he smashed a two-run homer. For the game Pittsburgh out-hit
Montreal 9 to 6.
Dock Ellis(6-0) went 7 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Joe Gibbon got
the save, his 5th. The losing pitcher was Dick Radatz(1-2) in relief. He
gave up 4 hits and no walks in 1 inning.

Blue Moon Odom blanked Seattle in a very well-pitched complete game at Oakland
Coliseum where the Oakland Athletics beat the Seattle Pilots by the score of
1 to 0.
Odom(5-1) had a strong outing. He surrendered only 4 hits and 6 walks in 9
innings seeing his ERA drop from 4.53 to 3.81. Oakland had just 5 hits for
the afternoon.
Steve Barber(2-3) was given the loss. He was a hard-luck loser, pitching 6
innings and not allowing an earned run.

Reggie Jackson blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI as the Oakland Athletics
outscored the Seattle Pilots 5 to 3.
Oakland came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 8th
inning with 2 runs on 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Catfish Hunter
started the rally when he stroked a one-base hit. Bert Campaneris followed
and he lined a base-hit. One out later, Jackson then reached on an error
which plated a run. Jackson was up next and he was hit by a pitch. A balk
was called scoring the final run of the inning. Oakland managed 7 hits in
their victory.
Hunter(2-3) got the win allowing 3 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. Rollie Fingers
recorded the save, his 1st. The losing pitcher was Marty Pattin(1-2) in
relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 2 hits and no
walks.
'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Hunter said.
