Win:McNally(5-0) Loss:Lolich(2-4)
Homeruns- A.Kaline(7th)
Don Buford had 2 base hits and Dave McNally allowed just 2 hits as the
Baltimore Orioles defeated the Detroit Tigers in 10 innings 2 to 1 at Tiger
Stadium.
The score was tied at 1 after nine. Finally, Baltimore prevailed in the 10th
inning. Frank Robinson drew a walk. Two outs later Davey Johnson came up
and he stroked a base-hit. Andy Etchebarren then laced a single scoring the
run. Baltimore totaled 9 hits on the night.
The win was credited to McNally(5-0) who went the whole way allowing 1 run.
Mickey Lolich(2-4) absorbed the loss. Mayo Smith was obviously impressed
with the pitching of McNally, 'That guy made us look a little silly out there
tonight. We just couldn't get to him at all - everything was working for
him. I just hope that he got that kinda performance out of his system.'
