Lee Maye collected 2 extra-base hits and had 3 RBI at Fenway Park as the
Washington Senators came back dramatically to top the Boston Red Sox by the
score of 7 to 5.
Washington came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning when
they tallied 5 runs on 3 hits. The biggest moment was provided by Maye who
deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he tripled with all three
runners coming home. Washington had 8 hits for the afternoon.
The win was credited to Bob Humphreys(1-0) who went 2 innings allowing 3 runs.
Darold Knowles recorded his 3rd save. Vicente Romo(1-2) absorbed the loss in
relief.
Ted Williams was all smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in your last
at bats, is a beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out there?
You could have heard a pin drop when we took the lead. But, hey, that's what
makes baseball so great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says, 'it's not over
'til its over.'
