The California Angels defeated the Chicago (AL) White Sox by a score of 4 to 1
at Comiskey Park.
California scored 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning when they came up with 3
base hits. That was all the runs Jim McGlothlin(1-1) needed. Chicago (AL)
made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs
across.
Ken Tatum was credited with his 2nd save. Joe Horlen(1-1) took the loss. He
allowed 4 runs and 7 hits in 7 innings.

George Scott jacked one out of the ballyard and Mike Nagy pitched a 3 hitter
as the Boston Red Sox bested the New York (AL) Yankees 5 to 1 at Fenway
Park.
Boston brought 3 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 4th inning when
they had 3 base hits. The biggest moment was provided by Rico Petrocelli who
made the crowd come alive when he popped a two-run clout over the fence.
Boston had 9 hits for the afternoon.
The win was credited to Nagy(2-1) who went the whole way allowing 1 run. Al
Downing(1-1) was the loser. He pitched 7 and 1/3 innings giving up 9 hits
and 3 walks.

The Minnesota Twins nipped the Oakland Athletics 3 to 2 at Metropolitan
Stadium in a hard fought contest.
Minnesota scored the deciding run in the 8th inning. Rod Carew ripped a
base-knock. After an out was recorded, Harmon Killebrew came to bat and drew
a walk. Rich Reese then lashed a single scoring the run. Minnesota ended up
with 7 hits for the game while Oakland had 4.
Al Worthington(1-1) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Juan Pizarro(0-1) was given the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning and
surrendered 2 hits and 2 walks.
