Mike Andrews had 4 hits at Fenway Park where the Boston Red Sox beat the New
York (AL) Yankees in 13 innings by the score of 4 to 3.
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. Boston won the hard
fought contest in the 13th inning. Andrews took charge himself, delivering a
solo home run resulting in an exciting win for Boston and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans. Boston rapped out 9 hits for the
afternoon.
The victory went to Vicente Romo(1-1) who went 3 and 1/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Steve Hamilton(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief.

Danny Cater had 2 base hits and 4 RBI and Chuck Dobson tossed a complete game
at Metropolitan Stadium where the Oakland Athletics beat the Minnesota Twins
6 to 4.
Oakland had the game winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 2 base
hits. After an out was recorded, Bert Campaneris initiated the scoring spurt
when he ripped a base-hit. After another out, Reggie Jackson came to bat and
was walked intentionally. Sal Bando then drew a walk to load the bases.
Cater was up next and he slapped a one-base hit scoring two teammates. Cater
took second on the throw. Minnesota could do no damage in the bottom of the
9th.
Dobson(1-1) finished the game allowing 4 runs in the victory. Bob Miller(1-2)
was given the loss. He pitched 8 and 2/3 innings giving up 7 hits and 6
walks.
'I struggled a bit out there today,' Dobson said, 'but I toughed it out and we
got the win.'

Baltimore brought 2 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 6th inning when
they came up with 3 base hits. They would be enough to earn the win.
Cleveland went down quietly in the 9th.
