Roger Nelson tossed a complete game and left fielder Lou Piniella hit a
homerun and had 2 RBI at Municipal Stadium as the Kansas City Royals beat the
Oakland Athletics by the count of 6 to 4.
Kansas City went ahead for good in the bottom of the 7th inning when they
tallied 2 runs on 1 hit. The biggest moment was provided by Piniella who
made the Kansas City fans a happy lot when he bombed a two-run dinger. Both
teams finished the game with 9 hits.
The winning pitcher was Nelson(1-1) who allowed 4 runs for the game. Catfish
Hunter(1-2) suffered the loss. He allowed 8 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 2/3
innings.

Right fielder Andy Kosco touched them all and had 2 RBI and Claude Osteen went
9 solid innings at Dodger Stadium as the Los Angeles Dodgers embarrassed the
Houston Astros by the lopsided score of 14 to 0.
Houston never recovered after Los Angeles took the lead in the bottom of the
2nd inning when they scored 2 runs on 2 hits. The early run support proved
sufficient for Osteen(2-1) and Los Angeles. That was all the run support
Osteen required. Los Angeles totaled 15 hits on the night.
The loss was charged to Don Wilson(1-2). 'All of my pitches were working
tonight,' Osteen said. 'I felt really good out there, and heck, I think I
could have gone longer.'

RBI as the San Francisco Giants defeated the San Diego Padres by a score of 3

San Francisco set the tone of the game in the first inning as they scored 2

First baseman Don Mincher cracked 2 homeruns as the Seattle Pilots defeated
the Chicago (AL) White Sox 4 to 3 at Comiskey Park.
The game was won by Seattle when they scored a run in the 9th inning. Jerry
McNertney reached on an error. Ray Oyler was the next batter, but he struck
out. After another out, Tommy Harper then lashed a single scoring the run.
Both teams totaled 7 hits on the night.
Jim Bouton(1-0) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Bob
Locker earned the save, his 2nd. Dan Osinski(0-1) was the losing pitcher in
relief. He was pinned with the loss despite not allowing an earned run in
his 2 innings of work.
